Carving after a runestone from Gotland

28 x 19.5 x 1 cm  (Approximately: 11″ x 7.5″  x .4″)

The stone was done in the Ringerike style, 11 century

Below the runes there are two panels, both showing presumably the three gods Odin, Thor and Frey darstellen, because their attributes are are spear, hammer and scythe. The figures are wearing typical viking clothes: Hekla on the body and a skott-húfa on the head. On the left there is a bird, maybe
a swan or a crane, bowing his head over Frey. The meaning of the bird is unknown.

The runes in transcription:

: roþuisl : aug : farborn : auk : kunborn :

Translation:

Hróðvisl and Farbjôrn and Gunnbjôrn

The meaning of the first name is unknown. The second one can be translated with “(Far) traveling bear” and the third is “Battle bear”.

Moor oak is an ancient wood from an European tree having laid in a swamp, moor or mine for about 800-6000 years. This means, that this wood is a direct link to the European past. The black color is done by a natural process!  It’s painted with natural casein color, oiled with linen oil, waxed and sanded.
